1. Lack Of Interest
The most common reason a blogger stops or completely quits blogging is the dwindling interest in the project. Many a times it is due to writer’s block, i.e., no ideas to create new content.
Lack or decline of interest is not the same as lack of passion, you may be highly passionate about a particular topic or cause but that does not necessarily means that you can keep writing about it regularly.
2. Lack of Patience
No traffic. No appreciation. No motivation.
Even if you are able to write tons of content on a topic, the best content in the entire industry, it takes time to actually start seeing the results.
You have to endure weeks and months of low traffic even after deploying the best marketing tactics. You will not get a single comment, like or share on many of the articles you launch your blog with.
Instead of getting demotivated, one should keep churning great content day after day without any expectations, patiently.
3. Lack Of Hard Work
We see the stardom and fame of successful people without noticing the hard-work they put to achieve those results.
At first glance, blogging may appear an easy job, certainly easier than your current desk job. But every job needs hard-work to get the gains.
What would happen if you went to the office only when you felt like going? You would get fired! The same principle applies here too. You have to consistently keep on writing blog posts and take it very seriously to get the desired results.
4. Lack Of Passion
As I mentioned earlier, interest and passion are different. You can start a blog on a topic you are interested in and with hardwork and great content you may start earning good money also.
But if you blog just for the money part of it, there will come a day you will lose interest because it was not your passion to start with, just an affinity to the topic.
You will stop blogging as soon as it starts feeling like that boring but high paying desk job you left to start your venture!
5. Lack of Business sense
Not considering it a business. Just a hobby! Just another WordPress blog!
Even if all the above are not an issue in your case. You like it and you will do it for free, even at a loss (those servers that your blog runs on are not free!).
Still a time will come, maybe during a recession or any other testing time when you will start to question yourself. Or you might just find a passion/interest greater than the current one and you will abandon your blog. Why? Because what tangible benefit were you getting anyway?
So, always consider your blog a serious business, not just a hobby. Those $$$ will make it difficult for you to abandon the blog.
Sometimes, a blog is difficult to monetise using traditional techniques but when there are people in the world who buy pet rocks making the seller a millionaire then what’s your excuse?
Concluding the article, I just want to say that sometimes it is best you shut the blog sooner than later. After-all, it is your life and certainly your own personal decision to do whatever with your creation.
No need to justify, no regrets. I just shared the things to consider and avoid if you like writing and especially if you want to make a career in writing!
This is definitely not an exhaustive list of why a blog fails. Have a story to tell about your first failed blog/project? Please share it in the comments section below.
